Fighting Global Malnutrition for 25 Years

The Eleanor Crook Foundation is a growing U.S. philanthropy fighting to end global malnutrition through Research, Policy Analysis, and Advocacy.

The Eleanor Crook Foundation (ECF) was founded in 1997 with a single goal: to eradicate global malnutrition. We invest in research that proves what methods work, policy analysis to drive systems reform, and advocacy that makes the case for urgent action to address this global crisis.

ECF is an active investor and our team of experts prides itself on being accountable and informed. We ask tough questions and go beyond our grantmaking to serve the global malnutrition sector as a key convener, advocate, and thought leader. In 2017, the Foundation pledged $100 million towards the elimination of global malnutrition. In addition, our growing endowment will allow us to keep fighting to end malnutrition for as long as it takes. Today, many of ECF’s grants are funded by Eleanor personally while others are fulfilled by the Foundation’s endowment.

Almost three million children under the age of five will die this year from malnutrition, making it the leading cause of death of children globally.

Malnutrition ravages almost every aspect of a child’s body and those who survive face lasting consequences.

Today, one in four children around the world are permanently impaired by malnutrition - both cognitively and physically.

What We Fund

The Eleanor Crook Foundation invests in partners who are bold, restless, and creative. If you have an idea that you believe could push the boundaries of global nutrition research, policy, or advocacy and that falls within ECF’s strategic priorities, we want to hear from you.

Advocacy

Despite the fact that global malnutrition causes nearly half of child deaths each year, less than 1% of donor funding is spent on lifesaving malnutrition programs. ECF supports partners driving greater global investment and demanding stronger accountability for every dollar spent.

Policy

ECF supports thoughtful policy analysis to assess the current landscape and propose audacious new solutions to the global malnutrition infrastructure. We explore how systems and policies need to adapt to emerging innovations, and foster favorable environments for scaling malnutrition solutions.

Research

Although many approaches to managing malnutrition exist, few are applied effectively at scale. Our research investments focus on how to scale up cost-effective malnutrition interventions, with the ultimate goal of improving and saving lives.
