Today marks a historic milestone in the fight against child malnutrition.
We are deeply grateful to Secretary Rubio and the U.S. Department of State for announcing their plan to invest $100 million in Operation End Starvation—a bold commitment that brings us significantly closer to a world where no child dies from starvation.
This milestone reflects the vision and leadership of the U.S. State Department and the many Democratic and Republican champions in Congress who have worked tirelessly to build support for scaling proven, lifesaving solutions to deadly malnutrition. Their bipartisan leadership has made this moment possible.
Every 30 seconds, a child dies from severe malnutrition, despite the fact that an effective, low-cost treatment has long existed. Today's announcement from the State Department is a powerful vote of confidence in a new public-private partnership designed to ensure those solutions reach children at the scale they deserve.
We are equally grateful to our philanthropic partners for helping commit $33m in matching private resources for this first phase of OES, and to the entire ECF community. Your support over so many years helped lay the foundation for this achievement.
A special thank you to Kara Weiss and CRI Foundation, without whom none of this would have been possible.
There is still much work ahead, but today is a day to celebrate—and to thank everyone who has helped move us one step closer to ending child deaths from starvation.
With gratitude,
Will Moore - CEO, Eleanor Crook Foundation (ECF) & Operation End Starvation (OES)
